Even though the season concluded in early June, the 2025 Northeastern Huskies continue their historic run, as graduate student catcher Gregory Bozzo signed with the New York Yankees on Wednesday after going undrafted in the 2025 MLB Draft. The announcement came one day after junior pitcher Charlie Walker signed with the San Diego Padres as an undrafted free agent.
Bozzo’s college career has been anything but ordinary, transferring to Northeastern midway through the academic year after La Salle eliminated its baseball program shortly before the 2021 season.
Bozzo didn’t play his freshman season, but took to the field as a sophomore and began his Northeastern career with only 17 at-bats during his debut season. In that time frame, he only accumulated a .118 batting average, but that all changed the next season. As a junior, Bozzo earned significantly more playing time from Coach Glavine, tallying a .236 AVG and 24 RBIs in 46 games.
After spending summer 2023 playing in the NECBL and Cape Cod Baseball League, Bozzo’s best season came in 2024, where he hit at a .270 AVG, including nine home runs, and reached .856 OPS — all career highs in his collegiate career.
Although Bozzo’s overall hitting stats tapered off in his final season, he reached a career high in runs (32) and walks (15) and tied his 2023 career-high 24 RBIs in his final season. His most electric moment of the season came in the NCAA Regional Elimination Game against Bethune-Cookman, when he hit the go-ahead home run to give Northeastern the 4-3 win — his only home run of the season and the program’s first tournament win since 1997.
Described as both a leader and “the craziest dude on the team,” Bozzo’s will certainly be big shoes to fill in the locker room.
Bozzo joins former teammates Sebastian Keane (P) and Cam Schlittler (P) in the New York Yankees organization. Schlittler recently made his MLB debut on July 9th against the Seattle Mariners, allowing 3 earned runs in 5.1 innings pitched. 2018 Northeastern alum Max Burt (SS) is also in the Yankees’ system playing in AA Somerset.
With Wednesday’s signing, Bozzo becomes the seventh Husky from the 2025 squad to earn a professional offer, but is the first staying in the northeast.
