Over the weekend, the Northeastern Men’s Hockey team looked to build upon their win against Bentley with two home games against Arizona State. The Huskies kicked off the weekend on Friday night with a comfortable 5-2 victory over the Sun Devils. Each of the five goals was scored by a different Husky.
NU completed the sweep of the weekend with a 6-1 win against Arizona State. Ryan Ruck recorded 21 saves during an impressive showing in goal for the Huskies. The win was once again a complete team effort as each of the six goals was scored by a different Husky.
“Any time you sweep a weekend, you’re happy,” said Head Coach Jim Madigan after Saturday’s win.
He also complimented the tremendous play of the team’s defensemen, calling them key blocks needed to keep the team’s 4-1 advantage going into the third period.
Northeastern (3-1-2) returns to action next Sunday, October 30, when they kick off Hockey East play against Vermont at Matthews at 3 P.M.
Women’s Ice Hockey
October 18 – The Lady Huskies kicked off their week with a huge 6-2 win against Boston University at Matthews Arena. The game was Northeastern’s first Hockey East contest of the season. Shelby Herrington lead the way with two goals, including one on a power play.
October 21 – Northeastern continued its winning ways with a 3-0 away victory against Dartmouth. Brittany Bugalski recorded 19 saves for the Huskies en route to the shutout. Halle Silva, Kasidy Anderson, and Denisa Krizova each scored for the team.
The Lady Huskies look to continue their success in an away matchup against Boston University on Tuesday, October 25, at 7 P.M.
Women’s Soccer
October 21 – Northeastern returned home for a conference game against Towson and came away with a 2-0 victory. The Huskies outshot their opponents 20-3, with Hannah Lopiccolo and Hannah Rosenblatt each scoring in the win.
October 23 – Northeastern concluded regular season play with a 2-1 victory over James Madison. Both of NU’s goals were scored by Hannah Rosenblatt (11). With the win, the Huskies clinched the CAA regular season title, along with a bye in the quarterfinals of the 2016 CAA Championship.
Northeastern (12-6-1) returns to action on Friday, November 4, when they will host a semifinal matchup against the winner of William and Mary and UNCW.
Men’s Soccer
October 19 – Northeastern returned home after a visit to James Madison and recorded an impressive 3-1 win over Holy Cross. All three Husky goals were scored in the first half.
October 22 – Needing a big CAA win, Northeastern was able to fight one out for a 1-0 victory against UNCW. Gaku Lange scored the lone goal for the Huskies, with Daniel Arvidsson getting the assist. Jonathan Thuresson had three saves.
Northeastern (6-9) will conclude CAA regular season action on Saturday, October 29, with a visit to College of Charleston
Women’s Volleyball
October 20 – After a long home stand, Northeastern hit the road where they fell 3-1 to James Madison.
October 22 – Despite being down 0-2, Northeastern pulled off a massive comeback by winning three sets straight to get the 3-2 victory over William and Mary. During the win, the team recorded new season highs in kills, assists, and points, while Jamie Bredahl and Kristen Walding each recorded individual season highs in these three categories.
Northeastern (18-6) will return to action on Wednesday, October 26, for an away matchup against Hofstra.
Women’s Field Hockey
October 23 – Northeastern’s lone game this week was a tight home matchup against Wake Forest. The Huskies fell to the Demon Deacons 1-2 in a contest that had to be decided in overtime. Natalie Stewart (5) scored the goal for the Huskies.
Northeastern (7-9) will play their final regular season games next Friday at 7 P.M. against Delaware and next Sunday against Towson at 2 P.M. The Delaware matchup is an away game, but the Sunday matchup will be played at home at Dedham Field.
Men’s Cross Country
October 21 – The Northeastern men’s cross country team finished eighth overall at the Central Connecticut State Mini Meet. The average 5k time for the team was 16:01.8. Leading the way for the men was sophomore Dan Paiva who finished 29th with a time of 15:39.5.
Women’s Cross Country
October 21 – On the women’s side, the Huskies finished 14th overall at the CCSU Mini Meet. The average 3k time for the team was 11:20.1. Edlyn Gulama finished first for the Huskies with a time of 11:07.1.
Both Northeastern teams will next compete in the CAA Championships hosted by the University of Delaware on October 29.
Women’s Swimming and Diving
Over the weekend, Northeastern split a pair of duel meets in the team’s home opener. NU picked up a 195-107 victory over New Hampshire, but fell 136-163 to James Madison. Christine Leong played a key role for the Huskies as she was able to grab first and second in the backstroke events.
Northeastern (2-1) will hit the road in two weeks for matchups with George Mason and Towson in Fairfax, VA.
Men’s and Women’s Rowing
Both teams will compete at the Princeton Chase next Sunday, October 30.
