BROOKLINE – Northeastern women’s soccer ended its 2026 season on a high note Sunday afternoon, defeating the Monmouth Hawks 3-1 at Parsons Field. Despite being heavily outshot, the Huskies capitalized on their opportunities, scoring three goals to secure their sixth win of the season.
Entering the match, Northeastern held a 5-8-3 overall record and a 3-4-1 mark in the CAA.The Huskies had struggled offensively, failing to score in their last three games. However, they quickly put those struggles behind them, finding the back of the net three times against Monmouth, who entered the match with a 7-4-5 overall record and 2-3-3 mark in the CAA.
Northeastern nearly opened the scoring in the first minute when freshman Bridget Durkin forced Monmouth goalkeeper Tallulah Miller into an early save.
Despite Monmouth controlling much of the attacking play, the Huskies broke through in the 20th minute. Senior Juliana Garcia fired a shot into the bottom-left corner, assisted by junior forward Foluke Balogun and freshman Lucia Arcila. The goal was Garcia’s first of the season and gave Northeastern a 1-0 advantage.
The Hawks continued to pressure Northeastern throughout the opening half, outshooting the Huskies 10-4. However, senior goalkeeper Eliza Teplow made three saves to preserve Northeastern’s lead heading into halftime.
The Huskies extended their advantage in the 55th minute when sophomore defender Ava Gialanella scored directly from a corner kick. The Olimpico goal curled into the net, doubling Northeastern’s lead.
Less than a minute later, junior Claire Murray added another goal with a long-range strike that beat Miller, extending the Huskies’ lead to 3-0. Balogun provided the assist, recording her second of the afternoon.
Despite falling behind by three goals, Monmouth continued to create opportunities. The Hawks eventually found their breakthrough in the 82nd minute after a Northeastern handball resulted in a penalty. Senior Chloe Messer converted from the spot kick, sending a low-driven shot into the bottom-left corner past a diving Teplow, who went the right way.
Monmouth finished the match with 26 shots compared to Northeastern’s 10, including a 9-8 advantage in shots on target. However, the Huskies’ efficiency in front of goal proved to be the difference. Teplow finished with eight saves, helping Northeastern hold off the Hawks’ attacking pressure.
With the victory, Northeastern finished its 2026 campaign with a 6-8-3 overall record and a 4-4-1 mark in CAA play, closing out the season with a win in front of its home crowd. The Huskies have now failed to qualify for the CAA Championship for the third consecutive season, finishing outside the top three qualifying spots in the CAA North standings. Despite both Northeastern and Stony Brook finishing with 13 conference points, the Huskies lost the tiebreaker to the Seawolves after falling in their head-to-head matchup on Oct. 25th.
