PHILADELPHIA, Pa. –In a game with 15 lead changes, Northeastern escaped with a 75-70 overtime victory over Drexel at Daskalakis Athletic Center Monday evening . With the Huskies trailing by three points with 33 seconds remaining, TJ Williams spotted Bolden Brace open in the left corner with a beautiful cross-court pass. Brace buried the triple, which ultimately sent the game to overtime. The Huskies would take the lead 30 seconds into overtime on a two-handed dunk by Alex Murphy, and an offense rebound by Max Boursiquot in the final minute sealed the deal.
“I just can’t say enough about our freshmen down the stretch. Bo (Brace) made some big shots and Max ended up with 13 rebounds, none bigger than the offensive rebound” Coen remarked after the game.
TJ Williams led all scorers with 24 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists. Murphy contributed 20 points and 9 rebounds as well.
Drexel used their size to their advantage as Northeastern struggled to contain senior forward Rodney Williams, who led the Dragons with 20 points. Drexel took a 47-38 lead with 12:39 remaining in the second half, but the Huskies quickly responded, scoring on back-to-back possessions.
Northeastern has won five in a row as they move to 9-5 on the season and 2-0 in CAA play. Their next game is at home on Thursday, as they will take on Delaware. It will be the first of a three-game home stand. Drexel falls to 6-9 on the season and 0-2 in the conference.
