Men’s Basketball Media Day

By Milton Posner The CAA Tournament is a funny thing. Save for the top six teams receiving a first-round bye — which Northeastern has — there isn’t much advantage in being a one seed instead of a six seed. This is especially true this season, in which the league’s almost ludicrous parity limits the matchup

Men’s Hockey Swept by Vermont

By Jack Sinclair BURLINGTON, VT — Every season, every team, no matter the sport, goes through ups and downs. The 2007 Patriots rode high for 18 games, then fell in the Super Bowl. Northeastern’s Convoluted Playoff Scenarios

Men’s Basketball Bests Drexel in Crucial Late-Season Matchup

Northeastern played seven games between then and Saturday afternoon’s rematch with Drexel.

Women’s Hockey Masters Merrimack

Before that, however, the team had one more job to do. Merrimack and Northeastern sit at opposite ends of the Hockey East standings.

Men’s Basketball Decimated by Delaware

By Milton Posner Those moments when you’re riding high, when you feel invincible, when you feel like you have all the momentum and confidence . . . those are the moments you’re most likely to be smashed over the head with a hefty sledgehammer. Such was the story of the Northeastern Huskies on Thursday night.

Men’s Hockey Falls to Boston College

By Matt Neiser BOSTON — Coming off a hard-fought weekend sweep of UMass Lowell, No. 10 Northeastern hoped to carry their momentum against another top Hockey East team Thursday night at Matthews Arena. Women’s Hockey Bests Providence, 4–1

Men’s Basketball Routs Cougars Behind Dominant Second Half

Their Saturday afternoon opponent seemed perfectly primed to exploit

Men’s Hockey Knocks Off No. 11 UMass Lowell

But there’s one team in Hockey East that doesn’t seem scared of the Huskies, and on Friday

Men’s Basketball Subdues Seahawks, Summarily Snapping Subpar Skid

It was a moment that Husky players, coaches, fans, and yes, even radio guys,

IT’S A BEANPOT SWEEP!

By Dale Desantis BOSTON — It was déjà vu in the best way for the Huskies. Twenty-four hours after Jordan Harris’ game-winner propelled the men’s team to a Beanpot championship, Lauren MacInnis, refusing to let Harris be the only #2-wearing Husky defender to sink Boston University with a double-overtime goal, ended the night. It was

IT’S A THREE-PEAT!

That was January 10, 2019. It was also the last time the Huskies would possess a losing conference

Men’s Hockey Prevails, Pushing Past Providence

By Jack Sinclair BOSTON — An extra week off of the ice usually results in one of two things. Either the team returns rested and with fewer injuries, or they look sluggish and uneasy. Northeastern came off their 12-day break with nothing but benefits. They were rested, and the return of Julian Kislin after a

Women’s Hockey Clinches Second Straight Regular Season Championship

By Catherine Morrison BOSTON — Every major women’s hockey poll places Boston University as the eighth-best team in the nation. Although those polls place Northeastern third, the Huskies would be forgiven for taking every last game to edge BU out for the Hockey East crown. The Huskies didn’t need that many. They clinched on Friday.

Men’s Basketball and The Knight That Won’t End

By Milton Posner WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia — The green-and-gold-clad players leapt joyfully on the sidelines. The similarly dressed fans erupted into deafening cheers. And the scoreboard, for the final time on a frantic Thursday evening, changed its mind. But Northeastern fans who were paying attention — and perhaps even a few who weren’t — would have

Women’s Hockey Tops No. 8 BU

By Catherine Morrison BOSTON — Northeastern’s Tuesday game against rival Boston University was a nail-biter from start to finish. BU started out strong with a first-period goal from Deziray De Sousa. Northeastern is rarely behind at all, much less in the opening frame, and leads the nation with 42 first-period goals this season. However, the

CAA Men’s Basketball Has Gone Completely Insane

By Milton Posner If you took a shot every time a CAA coach, player, or commentator said the word “parity,” you’d probably wake up the next morning with a raging hangover, an empty wallet, a lower-back butterfly tattoo, and no clue how you wound up two cities over. It’s entirely justified. The Hofstra Pride, last

Women’s Hockey Very Vehemently Vanquishes Vermont

By Catherine Morrison Fifteen minutes into Saturday afternoon’s matchup with the Vermont Catamounts, Northeastern allowed a goal, the first in nearly three weeks. Men’s Basketball Falls to Delaware, 76–74

Women’s Hockey Stymies UConn

Women’s Hockey Shuts out Boston College for Second Straight Game

Third-Period Comeback Falls Short as UNH Tops Men’s Hockey in OT

By Matt Neiser DURHAM, New Hampshire — “That effort tonight was unacceptable.” A clearly irritated Jim Madigan was none too happy with his team postgame, and for good reason. Men’s Basketball Falls to Hofstra on Pemberton’s Game-Winner

Men’s Basketball Trounces Towson to Open Conference Play

By Milton Posner For years now, anyone who has strolled into SECU Arena to face Pat Skerry’s Towson Tigers has known exactly what they’re up against. Men’s baseball splits four-game series with Mizzou

By: Alexander Tsipis

On Friday, the Huskies began a four-game series against the University of Missouri Tigers at City of Palms Park in Fort Myers.  Led by 2017 freshman All-American Kameron Misner, the Tigers boast one of the most powerful lineups in the country (9.3 runs per game). The Huskies sent senior right hander Brian Christian to the mound in game one. The Tigers jumped on him early after a two-out double plated two in the first. But, Christian kept the Huskies in the game, allowing three runs on four hits in four innings of work while also tallying three strikeouts. Andrew Misiaszek threw three scoreless innings in relief for Northeastern before Mizzou was able to collect three, two-out hits in the bottom of the 8th, adding two late insurance runs. Across the diamond, Mizzou started Bryce Montes De Oca, a 6-foot-7 redshirt junior right hander who tops out at 99 mph. He kept the Huskies at bay, going 6 1/3 innings allowing four hits and a run while striking out eight as the Tigers beat the Huskies, 5-2.

Saturday featured a doubleheader between the Huskies and Tigers. Northeastern jumped out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to a pair of first inning doubles by senior shortstop Max Burt and junior infielder Ryan Solomon. The Tigers answered with a run in each of the next two innings. Huskies starting pitcher Tyler Brown was brilliant on the mound, allowing just those runs (one earned) before settling in and throwing six masterful innings. Huskies head coach Mike Glavine decided to go to the bullpen after a 6th inning home run by junior Jake Farrell gave the Huskies a 4-2 lead. Mizzou stormed back by putting a five-spot on the board in the bottom of the 7th, but the Huskies answered right back with three of their own in the top of the 8th. The Tigers scored one more in their half of the inning when an aggressive takeout slide broke up what would have been an inning ending double play.  Two quick outs in the top of the 9th left the Huskies trailing 8-6 and down to their final strike when sophomore Kyle Peterson walked, sparking a Huskies rally.  Junior Mason Koppens slapped a two-strike single through the left side and junior Charlie McConnell doubled down the left field line, securing a 10-8 comeback Huskies win. This was the program’s first victory over an SEC school.
